Veterinary Technician
Advanced Pet Care of Sedalia is a a cutting edge, full-service, small animal practice that provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories.
Position Purpose
The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
- Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
- Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
- Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
- Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
- Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
- Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
- Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Ability to work on weekends as required
- Previous veterinary experience preferred
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
- Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
- Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety

Position Purpose
We are eager to expand our team! We are looking to welcome an additional Associate DVM to come practice high quality, compassionate veterinary medicine within the wonderful Sedalia community.
We are open Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am-12:00pm. In congruency with work-life balance, Saturdays operate on a rotating schedule between DVMs.
We welcome DVMs of all experience levels! This is a great opportunity for any new graduate to take advantage of our customized mentorship program. Our two DVMs are supported by robust support staff consisting of 3 RVTs, multiple veterinary and kennel assistants, and 3 CSRs. They are skilled and professional, always making sure our doctors are never without a hand. We emphasize work-life balance, flexible scheduling, and no on-call responsibilities for all our team members.
About the area: Sedalia, MO serves as a crossroad for Highways 50 and 65. The Downtown Historic District offers art, culture, unique shopping, and dining to all our community members. The area is also home to numerous public parks for anyone looking for a place to walk, run, and relax as well as access to Katy Trail State Park! Throughout the year we are host to Missouri State Fair, the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, the Robert Woolery Sr. Memorial Pow Wow, and plenty of other one-of-a-kind events. Sedalia is also just an hour drive from both Columbia and Jefferson City! We are near Lake of the Ozarks for anyone looking to get away for the summer.
Essential Responsibilities
- Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
- Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
- Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
- Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
- Maintain patients’ medical records.
- Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
- Appropriate state licensure.
- Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
